The new art house/alternative cinema in Galway finally opened up- Pálás cinema. The project was delayed for years and the final cost was exorbitant at over €8.4 million. But it’s finally here and I visited this week to watch You Were Never Really Here but also to check out the bold design, which has divided public opinion.

The building was designed by dePaor Architects. When De Paor said “Each building is a means of communicating. I like when people say it reminds me of, or it’s like, something else. A door should be a door, but also much more.” you could guess that this was going to be no ordinary, mundane building. Personally I like it; daring, different, interesing and reminding me of the sketch Relativity by the Dutch artist M.C Escher
